Prisoner caught smuggling drugs into jail

A PRISONER who is currently behind bars is facing further charges after being caught allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into jail.

Terrence James Mitchell, 23, has been charged with supplying and attempting to supply a dangerous drug within a correctional facility.

The drug is believed to be buprenorphine - which is commonly used to treat opioid addiction.

The alleged incident took place on December 16, 2015 at Southern Queensland Correctional Facility.

The matter was mentioned briefly on Tuesday in Ipswich Magistrates Court where it was adjourned so the police brief could be completed.

The matter was adjourned until February 23.
