Power outages in Roma caused by animals, overloading
UNEXPECTED power outages have interrupted Roma businesses this morning, both in the CBD and the local industrial zone.
In McDowall St and surrounds, businesses and homes lost power when part of the network was briefly overloaded.
An Ergon Energy spokesman told The Western Star the outage was an automatic safety response.
"There is a planned outage for maintenance on Roma and during this work it was necessary for Ergon Energy crews to switch power to a separate part of the network," he said
"This caused a temporary overload that triggered our protection equipment and caused a short outage for customers who were not part of the planned outage."
The protection equipment, also known as auto-reclosers is designed to briefly shut off power when it detects a fault, and then restore it.
The Ergon Energy spokesperson also confirmed an "animal incident" occurred near Quintin St and Raglan St, causing damage to the infrastructure.
Together, the outages affected 586 homes and businesses
