THEY'RE the epitome of refined German engineering, a symbol of wealth, a luxurious icon but today Porsche cars are just a fire risk - albeit a slight one. 

Product Safety Australia has issued a recall on 239 Porsche cars, across a range of three models. 

One of the vehicles impacted is the top-end Porsche 911 Carrera 991, as well as the Boxster 718 and the Cayman 718. 

Brand new a Porsche 911 will set you back close to $250,000 and $300,000 depending on the options you go for. 

A new Boxster 718 will set you back a tidy $143,400 - plus on road costs and a new Cayman comes in at between $110,300 and $140,600. 

The issue?

"There is a possibility that the fastening screws for the fuel collection pipes on the affected vehicles can loosen and shear off," the product recall read. 

"There is potential for leakage to cause a smell from the vehicle. In extreme worst case situations, if the fuel comes in contact with an ignition source, there is potential for fire."
