End of era as popular pub closes its doors
ONE part of the trio that brought us Brewoomba and Oktoberfest is closing its doors.
The Mort Estate Hotel owners announced to its Facebook followers yesterday that Sunday would be its last day of trading.
Brothers Simon and Liam Janetzki opened the pub two years ago and it quickly gained a reputation as one of the best pubs in town.
They took over the Bellevue Hotel at the corner of Mort and Bridge Sts in 2014 and revamped it with a new look, new menu along with old classics.
Since then the pub has brought us Brewoomba, Ocktoberfest, Man Date and First Coat festivities.
Last night, the news the Mort Estate Hotel was closing devastated customers.
The message from the brothers announced the closure and thanked patrons for their support.
"We have had an amazing time over the last two years serving so many of you, however it is with heavy hearts that we have to tell you we are closing. This Sunday, 6th of November, is the final trading day of The Mort Estate," it read.
"We want to thank all of you who have come in and had a meal, a beer and a chat over the last few years, we have so many great memories because of you.
"We have poured over 400 unique beers on tap, and countless more bottles and showed that you don't need to live in a capital city to access amazing products.
"We're so proud to have developed great friendships with other local businesses, to have put on massive festivals and played our role in the Toowoomba community, such as Brewoomba, Man Date, Oktoberfest and First Coat.
"We must give a huge thank you to all our staff. Each of you are what made The Mort what it was and we are so grateful to every one of you. We hope that we leave Toowoomba a better place than when we found it, with more variety, quality and a stronger focus on service.
"This Sunday night we plan on going out with a final party, so please come join us for one last beer and leave with one last memory. Thank you all, we'll miss you."
Customers shared their disappointment, with more than 100 comments on the post.
Monique Yuginovich said it was awful news for Toowoomba.
"This place was something better, something more evolved than other venues in this town. Please let all of your loyal followers know of any future endevours you all are involved with," she said.
"The corner of Mort and Bridge Sts will be in a shadow for many moons to come when you depart."
Mark Meara said, "Thank you for all the memories - the awesome service, great food, and excellent beers. I'm going to miss trying new and rare things."
