Police stop stolen cars by popping their tyres on highway
TWO stolen vehicles were forced to stop after police popped their tyres as the drivers headed north along the Bruce Highway.
The two vehicles were reported stolen on the highway early on Wednesday.
Police say that at 2.25am, they were notified that the suspected stolen vehicles had been located near Ayr travelling north towards Townsville.
As they neared Townsville, just before 3am, "tyre deflation devices" were successfully deployed by officers.
One vehicle stopped and two women were taken into custody without further incident.
The other vehicle continued to drive on its rims, but the pursuit only lasted another 30 minutes.
Around 3.25am a number of police vehicles travelling behind the stolen vehicle caused it to slow down and stop, with a man taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
The man and a female police officer received minor injuries as a result of the incident.
A man and two women are currently assisting police with their enquiries.
Investigations are continuing.
