Police received tip off of man carting ‘fair’ quantity of drugs
After local police received a tip off of a man travelling to Roma with drugs, officers met him hopping off the bus and located nearly 100 grams of cannabis.
The Roma Magistrates Court heard at 2.45pm on March 13, Roma Police Officers intercepted Johnavon George Robert Pearce getting off the bus and did a pat down search, finding 91.1 grams of cannabis in two sandwich bags.
Police prosecutor sergeant Heather Whiting said the defendant made admissions that it was cannabis and belonged to him for personal use.
Solicitor Leslee Reed told Magistrate Peter Saggers that her client is 37-years-of-age and is unemployed but was seeking employment and had a child due in August.
“He believes he needs assistance for cannabis use,” Ms Reed said.
“He pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and co-operated with police.”
Magistrate Saggers said it was a fair quantity of cannabis for someone who is not working and has a baby on the way.
Pearce was given a 12-month probation order and a conviction was recorded.
