Police officers assaulted by a Roma dangerous driver

Four police officers were assaulted and a fifth spat at as they tried to arrest a man involved in a dangerous driving incident at Roma yesterday.

The drama occurred at 5.45pm when Police were called to Charles Street around to investigate reports of a vehicle driving erratically.

Police located a man who they said pushed officers before punching one in the face, and spat at two others during a violent struggle as they attempted to arrest him. 

The four officers, two women and two men, were all taken to the Roma hospital for treatment of bruising and grazes and for blood tests following exposure to bodily fluids.  The fifth officer, a man, was also taken to hospital for blood tests following exposure to bodily fluids.

A 19-year-old Acacia Ridge man has been charged with three counts of serious assault police (spitting), one count of serious assault police cause bodily harm, four counts of assault police, three counts of obstruct police, two counts of failing to supply specimen of breath and one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance. 

He was expected to appear at the Roma Magistrates Court today.
