Roma Police issue warning over vehicle thefts

ROMA police Senior Constable Rochelle Gillett has one message to help Roma citizens battle the spike in theft from motor vehicles - lock it or lose it.

Snr Const Gillett said there had been property stolen from motor vehicles and wanted to make the public aware.

"Spotlights and money have been stolen from inside of vehicles in the last few months," she said.

"Quite a few items have been stolen from motor vehicles, keep your valuables hidden from sight.

"Make sure you lock all doors and windows, even when the vehicle is parked and in your driveway or property."

Snr Const Gillett said marking your property helped to deter theft and provided proof of ownership of valuables.

"It will also assist police to identify and return property to its owner," she said.

Roma police will be at Westlands Plaza today from 10am-noon with an engraver that community members can use for free.

Items that can be engraved are bicycles, scooters, iPods, laptops and gaming consoles.
