Police investigating firearm discharge near Jackson

POLICE are investigating the possible discharge of a firearm on the Warrego Highway near Jackson last night.

It is alleged a truck driver flashed his lights to alert an oncoming utility to lower their lights at around 9:40pm. When the ute did not respond, the truck driver again flashed his lights.

After passing the semi-trailer in the opposite direction, the utility performed a U-turn and then overtook the truck before stopping abruptly, causing the truck driver to brake heavily.

After pulling up on the side of the road and exiting the vehicle, a noise consistent with a gunshot was heard as an object struck the front of the truck.

The utility then sped off in the direction of Roma.

Investigations are continuing and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
