APN's weekly NRL wrap-up

PLAY OF THE ROUND: Tigers veteran Pat Richards wins this twice. Tiptoed along the touch line before hooking a left foot kick infield for Tadesco to score while being knocked over the sideline. Just to show it was no fluke he did it again a few minutes later for Luke Brooks to score.

BLACK EYE OF THE ROUND: Bulldogs skipper James Graham and teammate David Klemmer for their disgraceful abuse of referee Gerard Sutton and the idiot Dogs' fans who behaved like English football hooligans.

UPSET OF THE ROUND: Cronulla unearthed yet another star of the future when 20 year-old five-eighth Jack Bird (pictured) grabbed himself a debut double as the Sharks shocked the Roosters with an in-your-face style that unsettled the hot pots. Bird's confidence, maturity, strength, power and ball running surprised many despite his big reputation coming into the clash.

DAZZLING STARTING DEBUTS: Jack Bird scored two tries against the Roosters prompting NSW captain and Shark skipper Paul Gallen to declare the 20-year-old a superstar in the making. The same could be said for Manly teenager Tom Trbojevic who also grabbed two tries on debut for Manly. Both stars of the future.

CONFESSION TIME: Former Brisbane, Queensland and Australian captain Gorden Tallis, arguably one of the fieriest players in the game at one time, confessing he went to referee Bill Harrigan's house to apologise for calling him a "cheat" for which the controversial whistle blower sent him off in a State of Origin game: "Yes, I have been guilty of arguing with referees in the past. And I was wrong. As much as I thought I was right at the time, and on some issues I was right, I let my team down. Nobody who has ever argued with a referee has ever won." Wise advice from the Raging Bull that Graham and Klemmer and all players should take note of.

TURNSTILE DEFENCE AWARD: Parramatta halfback Chris Sandow missed seven tackles in the 22-6 loss to the Tigers.
