Planting regime to benefit Yuleba town
THESE schoolkids might not be avid tree planters, but their actions will provide great benefits to the Yuleba community in the near future.
In association with Powerlink Queensland and the Queensland Murray Darling Committee (QMDC), the planting regime was the culmination of the Community Relations Program between the two, aiming to target weed management and biosecurity in south-west Queensland.
Powerlink have also launched their glovebox 'pocket guide' on weed awareness, and a smartphone app that details weed management in the area.
Powerlink's Kiara Bowles said the events marked the chance for land owners to become more aware of noxious weeds in the region.
"We are committed to working with land owners to minimise the spread of weeds across the area," she said.
"The school students today have been great at welcoming us into the area and taking on board our message of environmental protection."
Councillor Ree Price said she was thrilled with the efforts of the schoolkids, who took a great deal of pride in their work.
"This partnership has given the opportunity for people across the region to look at different weeds that threaten the environment."
