Planning for the future in Maranoa tourism
ATTRACTING more people to the region is the aim of a new initiative of the Roma Tourism Association.
The RTA have been working with tourism groups across the Maranoa to construct a plan for the future and work on collaborating the different areas.
President of the RTA Charlie Eames said this is the first time the association has done something like this.
"We are working on doing a three to five year action plan and reviewing our constitution,” Mr Eames said.
"It's the first time the RTA have put together a long term plan and we are really making sure there is some collaboration.
"It doesn't matter if someone is coming through Roma to go to Mitchell or wherever, we want to encourage them to go to all of the towns in the area.”
The RTA are in the initial stages of drafting up a plan but hope to see it come together in the near future.
"We've gotten the Tillman Group and help from a council grant to make it happen,” he said.
"The consultants have been out in town to talk with the relevant stakeholders.
"And the council at the moment are preparing their strategy so it's a good time for us to be doing this as well.”
Mr Eames said that by working together they will hopefully build a stronger tourism economy.
"At the end of the day what we are trying to do is to get more people coming out to visit the region and to stay longer in the region,” he said.
