Plan to boost infrastructure and jobs on the Fraser Coast

FOR the first time in more than three years, the State Government has released a State Infrastructure Plan, which is expected to "drive Wide Bay's economy and deliver the infrastructure the region needs to grow and generate jobs".

The Wide Bay unemployment rate currently sits at a high 9.9%, but State Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said the State Infrastructure Plan was "great news" for jobseekers on the Fraser Coast.

"This plan takes the politics out of the planning process and focuses on what's important - better infrastructure planning, quality decision-making and creating jobs for Queenslanders," Mr Saunders said.

"This plan will help deliver jobs for Queensland far beyond the mining boom, providing much-needed certainty for our construction industry.

"I'm eager to start working with my community and the government on some ideas for consideration under the $180 million Significant Regional Infrastructure Projects Program."

The plan highlights the details of the Tinana interchange upgrade, which is expected to start this month, and $36 million worth of funding for 13 different projects across the Wide Bay.

Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries and State Member for Bundaberg Leanne Donaldson welcomed the announcement of the State Infrastructure Plan and said it would bring economic growth and a boost in jobs.
