Pinaroo extensions to open in February
Pinaroo Retirement Village is putting the finishing touches on its new wing which is set to open on Wednesday, February 7.
The $2 million expansion will take the retirement village capacity from 50 beds to 60, with future plans in the next two years to take it up to 70.
Pinaroo Roma CEO Ian Murphy said he was excited about the new wing and the opportunities it would create.
"There is certainly a big demand for aged care places and we are always at capacity,” Mr Murphy said.
"The new wing will also create five or six new jobs as well, which is great for the community.
"There would be a lot of people out there thinking it's time to move into aged care but, being in the country, a lot of people don't come until they're in their 90s.”
During the course of 10 years Mr Murphy has visited around 30 aged care facilities and said Pinaroo was probably one of the best.
The last upgrade Pinaroo had was in 2002 when it was converted from a timber building to brick. The new wing will be home to 10 new residents from February.
The aged care facility has also had 3kW of solar panels installed in a bid to decrease electricity prices, with plans of installing more in the next 12 months.
"It will certainly assist with decreasing expenditure on electricity bills and it's a great substitute to replace fossil fuel and good for the environment,” he said.
Mr Murphy paid tribute to the community for its support, in particular the Maranoa Club for its generous donation towards the extension.
