Pilots take to skies for Flying Doctors
THE Royal Flying Doctor Service celebrated its 90th anniversary by staging an air pilgrimage from Dubbo to Mount Isa.
Twenty-five antique aeroplanes stopped at Roma Airport last Thursday where residents were treated to a close-up look at the aircraft.
Antique Aeroplane Association member and an organiser of the event, Matt Henderson, said he and the other pilots were excited to be part of the trip.
"The main focus of the trip is to promote and bring awareness to the RFDS about what they are doing, and help them celebrate their 90th birthday,” he said.
"For us it's a good adventure because we don't usually do trips like this and not often enough we go barrelling off into the Outback in an old aeroplane.”
RFDS director of communications Lana Mitchell was also pleased with the event.
"This is an amazing event and the RFDS was formed out of a need 90 years ago and is very much needed today and promotes our passion to service country Australia,” she said.
