Peter Keegan nominates for Council
PETER Keegan has nominated to run for Maranoa Regional Council.
Mr Keegan ran in the 2010 by-election and was narrowly edged into second place by Wendy Newman.
Mr Keegan is a 20-year veteran of the oil and gas industry and is also heavily involved in the local tourism industry as well as being known as the foremost historian of the district
In a letter to be published in Tuesday's Western Star, Mr Keegan said it took him a while to decide to nominate this time round.
"Six generations of my family have lived in this district so I do consider myself a local," Mr Keegan said.
"I firmly believe local business and the hospitality industry will become more dependent on conventional tourism as the coal seam gas industry becomes more reliant."
Mr Keegan also stressed the need for flood mitigation but warned that there was the potential for even more devastating floods than the one that hit the region last month.
"We cannot control the rainfall but we need to rely on more informed advice than can be expected from a councillor or council officer," he said.
Mr Keegan said he would do his best to serve the district "through what may well be a very difficult period.
