Peeping Tom suspect caught in the act

AN OBSERVANT mum has helped catch the man believed to have been the peeping Tom who was haunting the Augustine Heights area.

The man, reported as being of Asian appearance, had been seen by numerous residents lurking the streets and spying on people through their bedroom windows.

It was understood the first sightings of the man were in March, after a woman caught him looking at her through the window while she was in the shower.

The peeping Tom was apparently caught in the act again this week, when Augustine Heights mum of two Emma Creighton noticed a man acting suspiciously in the street.

"I was about to do some grocery shopping when I saw this Asian man walking back and forth in front of the house," she said.

"Something about it didn't seem right so I drove to my neighbour's house and watched him."

Ms Creighton said she saw the man walk to a house down the road and secretly peer through the window.

The 21-year-old said her partner followed the man, who then apparently looked through the windows of at least four more houses.

Ms Creighton said the police were called and arrested the man at about 6.45pm yesterday.

However police said no one had been charged in connection with the incident as of yesterday evening.

Ms Creighton said the neighbourhood had been on high alert after news of the peeping Tom was reported in the QT and on social media. "It was pretty distressing having someone in the neighbourhood behaving that way," she said.

Anyone with information is urged to phone Policelink on 131 444.
