Did Pokemon Go nearly cause a pedestrian collision?

BARGARA Police wish to remind the hundreds of drivers playing Pokemon Go around Nielson Beach, Bargara Esplanade and the Hummock, that you could be issued with an infringement notice if you play while driving a vehicle.

Police have received a number of complaints from concerned members of the public regarding people looking down at their phones whilst driving in these areas, suspected of playing Pokemon Go.

Police are currently investigating an incident that occurred on July 29 outside the Caravan Park at Nielson Beach, where a pedestrian was almost hit by a green utility.

Thankfully the pedestrian was not injured.

The driver of this vehicle, however, was believed to be watching his mobile phone on his steering wheel at the time.

The offence of 'driver use hand held mobile phone' will cost you $365 and three demerit points. Police want both drivers and pedestrians to be safe in these popular Pokemon Go areas.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
