Parishioners reach marriage milestone

ALL Saints Catholic Parish had a double celebration on Sunday, with parishioners watching Father Jamie Collins presenting a papal blessing acknowledging 50 years of marriage for Roma's Dennis and Joan Hickey.

This was combined with a special morning tea to farewell the couple as they retire from Roma to Toowoomba.

The duo has been very active in parish and community life in Roma.

Joan is a lifetime resident and Dennis came to Roma in 1964 with his trade as a builder.

Over the years Dennis established himself as builder who worked to the highest standards.

Joan was a well known identity in the stock and station agency world. Later her work at the Roma Hospital was well recognised.

At the presentation their daughter Anita Beutel was accompanied by their grandsons Hunter and Jett Beutel.

This comes days after All Saints Catholic Church held their Ecumenical Service for Ash Wednesday.

Representatives of the Uniting, Lutheran, Anglican and Catholic Church combined to give the readings and allow the congregation to partake of the ashes.
