Out of control party at Labrador sees officer assaulted

A LABRADOR party was declared by police to be an out of control event.

Around 9.15pm, Southport police attended a Musgrave Avenue address to follow up on a noise complaint.

Upon their arrival, officers were confronted with around 100 teenagers consuming alcohol and displaying anti-social behaviour.

A female Acting Sergeant was assaulted by a boy and as she attempted to arrest him, was surrounded by a group of other juveniles who began to throw bottles at her.

One of the bottles struck her in the back of the head.

The Acting Sergeant was assessed by paramedics at the scene but did not require further medical treatment.

A total of 17 police crews attended the scene to disperse the crowd after the party was declared an out of control event.

The Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit is investigating the incident.

Preliminary investigations suggest the disturbance was a result of a private event being inadvertently advertised publicly on social media.

A boy is currently assisting police with their enquiries into the assault of the Acting Sergeant.
