OUR SAY: Funding of movie a winner
FOR more than 10 years, the disappearance of Daniel Morcombe captivated the nation. It was a tragic situation that reached an inevitable conclusion with the discovery of his remains.
In the meantime, the nation embraced Daniel's grieving parents, Bruce and Denise, and prayed they would get the answers they so badly needed.
We watched their grief turn to anger and then, gradually, into something positive.
So was born the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, which now works non-stop to protect our children.
While the nation has embraced the Morcombes, the Sunshine Coast has always felt a special connection.
We drive past the memorial to Daniel on the Nambour Connection Rd, attend the Dance For Daniel and Day For Daniel activities and watch our children and grandchildren embrace Bruce and Denise's child safety messages.
Today's launch of a crowd-funding campaign to help make a movie about the search for Daniel gives us a another chance to play an active role in this story.
Done well, the movie will be another lasting legacy for Daniel Morcombe and help his parents continue to spread their valuable message.
It will also put a spotlight on the brilliant police work that caught and jailed Brett Peter Cowan over Daniel's death.
There'll be plenty of drama and intrigue, a few tears and, if we know Bruce and Denise, even a few laughs.
So let's dig deep and help keep this dream alive.
For the Morcombe family, for Daniel's memory and as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of this great community.
