Our Harry dishes a win on MasterChef
ROCKHAMPTON-born bartender Harry Foster has pulled off the seemingly impossible on MasterChef.
The 21-year-old was one of only three cooks to emerge unscathed from the show's Heston Week, which featured four extravagant pop-up challenges across Melbourne.
Foster's creativity flourished under the watch of guest chef Heston Blumenthal, whose unusual dishes inspired conceptual tests such as creating dishes inspired by astronomy and getting the public to tuck into savoury ice-creams.
"It was really good to be able to make it through Heston Week and not go into an elimination," Foster told the Bulletin.
"I'm a really creative person by nature so when Heston Week was on it was like 'this is my time to shine'. This was my time to get creative and do all those weird things I'd typically get criticised for doing."
One of the standout dishes of the week was Foster's dark chocolate black forest log, which he said reflected how much he'd grown on the show.
"Coming into the competition I'd maybe made one or two desserts in my entire life," he said.
"I am 100 percent a different person from the way I cook to the way I think about food."
Having lived all over the Sunshine State including Townsville, the Sunshine Coast and Lizard Island, Foster wanted to thank everyone who had shared messages of support.
"I rely a lot on my friends to talk about things and help me get through the day, so that was tough not being able to talk to them 24/7 while I was on the show," he said.
"The messages from friends and family just don't stop… my mum's loving it.
"Keep up the support because it means a lot."
Foster hopes to continue his winning momentum when the show continues tomorrow night.
"You are always second-guessing where you're sitting with the other contestants and how well you're ranking, so to make it through Heston Week like that after all those intense challenges and everything they threw at us was a massive confidence booster," he said.
"Every week it just gets tougher and tougher.
"And it certainly gets more stressful.
"I've just got to take it day by day and not have too many expectations."
