Queensland cricketer Jimmy Maher in Roma this weekend

AN "attractive left-hander with a clumping cover-drive" is how cricket website Cricinfo describes Jimmy Maher, and Roma fans will have a chance to judge for themselves this weekend.

Maher, a former World Cup winner and Bulls captain for five successful years, is an all-time Queensland great who continues to have a big influence on the game as an ambassador for XXXX.

The former Cairns boy scored 9993 runs in first class cricket and he will be in town this weekend to share his secrets with up and coming players, as well as share his stories with older stalwarts over a glass of amber.

Commonwealth Hotel owner George Cannon said they were bringing Maher out as part of their sponsorship of Souths cricket team.

Maher will be at the cricket nets at 5.30pm tonight before fronting up at the pub tomorrow lunchtime for the venue's Punters' Day.

Then on Sunday, Maher will be special guest at the 40 over game at Roma cricket ground.

The Twenty20 final on February 24 will be between Souths and Injune.
