One that didn't get away - shark caught in canal

A TWIN Waters resident has hooked a 1.5 metre bullshark in the canal behind his house.

Mark Bowyer hooked the five foot shark, which he estimated at 50-60kg, on a line that he had baited with ox heart on Friday night.

Mr Bowyer was woken by a neighbour this morning who noticed the float being dragged up and down the canal behind Seahorse Drive.

Residents of the Living Choice retirement village on the opposite bank enjoyed the spectacle as Mr Bowyer put his boat in the water, grabbed the float, and hauled in the shark.

Mr Bowyer said he hoped the many children who chose to jump from the bridges and swim in the canals would think twice after seeing his catch.

"We get out on the stand-up paddleboards. Now that this is in here, I think my technique on the stand-up is going to improve."
