Ex-nurse to try again for bail on murder charges next week

A NURSE accused of killing two women at Ballina's St Andrew's Nursing Home in 2014 will have her second attempt at getting bail heard next week.

Megan Jean Haines did not appear in Lismore Local Court yesterday but was represented by Ms Lloyd, who was acting as an agent for her solicitor, Michael Blair.

Haines, 46, stands accused of murdering Marie Darragh, 82, and Isobella Spencer, 77, on May 10 by injecting them with fatal doses of insulin after she found out about complaints made against her by the women.

She was also charged with common assault on an 88-year-old woman the same night as the alleged murders.

Yesterday Magistrate David Heilpern granted Ms Lloyd access to material subpoenaed from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency about Haines.

Mr Heilpern told the court he was unsure if he would have any jurisdiction if Haines was to apply for bail next Thursday, as she also had a bail application listed before the Supreme Court the following day.
