No truth to talk of Burgess fire sale at Souths
SOUTH Sydney has denied it is trying to offload prop Tom Burgess.
The England international (pictured) is signed until the end of 2018.
The Rabbitohs told his teammates as soon as the speculation appeared that rumours about his potential departure were not true.
Burgess's brother Sam said the 24-year-old was as shocked as everybody else when informed of the conjecture.
"I think it's a load of talk really,” he told NRL.com.
"It's not true so we'll move on.
"Tom spoke to Shane Richardson (Rabbitohs general manager of football) and it's completely not true.”
South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds echoed these sentiments when quizzed on Burgess's future as well.
The New South Wales Origin halfback said Tom Burgess was a huge influence on the Rabbitohs.
"Tom's a big make-up of the club and he's valued here,” Reynolds said. "We love having him around.
"He's a good character on the field but also off it as well.”
The Rabbitohs, to host the Raiders tomorrow, are 13th on the ladder and will miss the finals for the first time since 2011.
