No Slim performances for Dustier than Ever crew
DESPITE their name Dustier Than Ever, Chris Cook and his band’s music has enough polish and shine to honour the late country legend himself.
The Slim Dusty enthusiast and musician, accompanied by band mates Rob Renfrew and James Cantwell, will stop in Roma on Thursday as part of their tribute tour through south-west Queensland.
With over 100 successful shows under his belt, Mr Cook said he would be keen to see the town enjoy their rendition of Slim’s life, interspersed with his great musical works.
“We run about 120 shows a year, and it’s very well received across the country,” he said.
“The aim is to present a show about Slim, his life and his accomplishments, and perform some of his best tunes across the ages.”
The musician had a personal history with the late country legend, having written songs and corresponded with him between 1992 and 2003, so it’s only natural that he aims for a faithful re-creation of his idol’s music.
“It’s easy to present a fresh show each time, with such a diverse pool of music to draw from,” Mr Cook said.
“Doing the tribute show is a pleasure; I try to make it as relational as possible and leave everyone wanting more.
“This is an excellent opportunity to take the show to the outback – a place I’ve loved all my life, and a place that Slim Dusty loved.”
The band will play at the RSL Hall from 6.30pm on Thursday.
