Not such a speedy getaway for wheelie walker thief

IT doesn't sound like Christine Carol Richardson was planning a speedy getaway when she stole a wheelie walker from Schotia Place.

The 44-year-old went to Schotia Place on November 6, 2015, and gave false details to an employee in order to borrow a wheelie walker.

While she was at the senior citizen's centre on Bolsover St, she noticed an employee's bag containing a Commonwealth Bank card and pin details, which belonged to Schotia Place.

After stealing the card and pin from the employee, she headed on a shopping spree and racked up more than $500 at a local discount store.

A few weeks later police found Richardson and arrested her on four fraud charges and one charge of enter premises and commit an indictable offence.

Richardson faced Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday for the offences, which Magistrate Michael O'Driscoll labelled as "foolish behaviour".

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Manon Barwick told the court Richardson went to the discount store on three separate occasions, making transactions of $230.99, $358.68 and $63.

She also went to an ATM on Main St and withdrew $1000.

The court heard Richardson suffered from bipolar disorder and was not on her medication when the offences took place.

When Mr O'Driscoll asked for proof or medical documents supporting her condition, none were produced.

"Each charge is a serious criminal offence," Mr O'Driscoll said.

"Your conduct was deliberate."

Richardson was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay restitution of $1652.67.

No conviction was recorded.
