NO ACCESS: southwest roads closed under hard border

STRONGER restrictions are now in place on the state border in the southwest, as the Queensland government takes action to stop the spread of coronavirus.

In addition to a full border closure in Queensland, many rural roads which cross state lines are now closed, while major highways will have 24-hour police checkpoints to stop drivers attempting to enter.

Select exemptions will still apply to people who are considered essential workers and border crossing permit holders, but they will only be able to cross at certain checkpoints.

From now, the following roads (and access points through wild dog fencing) are closed under a hard Queensland border:

  • Border Connection Rd, Mungindi
  • Cambo Rd, Mungindi
  • Koomalah Rd, Dirranbandi
  • Hebel-Goodooga Rd, Dirranbandi
  • Mulga Downs Rd – Brenda Road (at the Byra Gate), Bollon
  • West Culgoa Rd (28 59.957s; 147 06.637e) aka Byra Road, Bollon
  • Jobbs Gate Rd, Cunnamulla
  • Achenar St, Hungerford
  • Innamincka Rd (SA), Thargomindah
  • Moomba Rd, Thargomindah
  • Dingo Barrier Fence, Waverley Gate, Thargomindah
  • Dingo Barrier Fence, Hamilton Gate, Thargomindah
  • Fortville Gate, Thargomindah
  • Dingo Barrier Fence, Wompah Gate, Thargomindah
  • Dingo Barrier Fence, Warri Warri Gate Road, Thargomindah
  • Dingo Barrier Fence, Tooma Gate, Thargomindah
  • Cameron Corner, Thargomindah

Those with permits or exemptions are able to cross the border at these locations, where police checkpoints are operating:

  • Carnarvon Hwy, Mungindi
  • Castlereagh Hwy, Hebel
  • Mitchel Highway, Barringun (Cunnamulla)
  • QLD/SA border crossing at Cordillo Downs, 450km west of Windorah

Queensland Police have advised all state residents to avoid any non-essential border crossings, while the virus-preventive measures are in place.

Those still needing to cross the state border are being asked to obtain a border pass online, and then print it to carry at all times. Border pass applications can be made at qld.gov.au/border-pass
