IT'S no surprise little Carter Birch was born at Roma Hospital - it's in his blood to be.
The first baby born in Roma for 2016 is the latest person in the Smith-Allwood to be born at Roma Hospital, which stems right back to his great-great-grandfather in 1912.
His mother Justine, sister Jade, uncle Dustin, great-grandparents Diane and Raymond and great-great-grandfather John were all born in Roma, despite most of them never having lived here.
Justine Birch (nee Allwood) said her second child with husband Adam had arrived two weeks earlier, with Carter becoming a welcome New Year's Day present.
"He was the same as his sister - they're very good kids," she said.
Justine said she found the staff at Roma Hospital very helpful and thanked them for their assistance.
"They were great - we always find Roma Hospital great to be at," she said.
"I had Jade there so I saw no reason to change it this time."
Diane said it had become an unofficial tradition for babies to be born in Roma.
"It's pretty unique - I've got four brothers and they were all born here."
