New security checks at airport
FROM July 1, passengers travelling out of the Roma Airport should leave extra time for security clearances.
Security officers will be operating at the airport from this date onward.
Passengers should be careful to make sure they are not carrying any sharp items in their hand luggage including nail scissors.
Security officers will be conducting baggage scans and may conduct random explosives tests on passengers.
According to the Department of Infrastructure and Transport website, the screening process should not take long, but it will add extra time to board.
"You should check with your airline and confirm their arrangements, but as a guide you should ensure you are at the airport at least one hour before your flight is scheduled to depart," said the website.
Under Australian law you must undergo screening if you wish to board a flight.
The new security measures comply with the National Aviation Statement which states all passengers travelling on regular public transport and open charter aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 20,000kg or more must be screened.
