New owners needed for town icon
AFTER 13 years, the time has come for Carol and Gary Schefe to move on from iconic jewellery store Coomber Bros.
In the business's 100th year of trading under the same name, Ms Schefe told The Western Star she had reached a decision to go out and do other things, hoping to leave the jewellery store in capable hands.
"Since Bob Coomber retired, there's only really been myself and another owner since the family had it,” she said.
"It's an awesome business, we paid it off in a very short time. We were able to put the kids through boarding school and we have great customers all over Australia.
"It's just time for someone new to come in with new ideas.
"We've built it up from what it was, we've changed things around but hopefully someone else can take it on and bring a fresh view and make it their own.”
Ms Schefe said she would love to see someone local purchase the "iconic” business but would also welcome any buyer interested in relocating to Roma.
"I mean if someone (out of town) wanted to move here and live here as a family, I think it would be a great opportunity for them,” she said.
"But it would also be really great if someone from within Roma decided to take on such an iconic business.
"It really is an icon of western Queensland.
"It's a family-orientated business with a long tradition.”
