Changes in stores for Bassett Park
ROMA had a special visit from shadow minister Luke Hartsuyker, who was in town to learn more about the proposed Bassett Park sporting development.
Mr Hartsuyker, the Shadow Minister for Regional Communications, Youth and Sport was in town on Tuesday and met with councillors and representatives from groups which currently use the facility.
Maranoa Councillor Peter Flynn gave Mr Hartsuyker a tour of the site, but stressed plans for the facility were unconfirmed and, at this stage, were purely speculation.
"However next Monday we're having a Bassett Park Advisory Committee meeting and the planner from Mak Planning and Designs will be in attendance to discuss and start the planning the proposal," Mr Flynn said.
If the Bassett Park development goes ahead it will be a multi-user venue which will house as many sports as possible in the one facility.
Exactly which sports would use the new facility has not been confirmed, but Cr Flynn current users such as the Roma Turf Club, Roma and District Rugby, equestrian and rodeo and campdraft would continue to use the facility.
Cr Flynn said having a multi-user facility would alleviate council costs of maintaining multiple ovals.
Mr Hartsuyker said he was behind the idea and there were many benefits to having a multi-user facility.
