New laws to nab anti-vaxxers after loophole closed

JUST when you thought 2015 was dead, buried and cremated, here are a few new laws from last year's decision makers which came into effect on January 1, 2016.

Child vaccinations

IF you don't play ball with new vaccination laws you may miss out on more than just the health and well-being of your child.

As of 2016 anti-vaxxers will no longer be able to conscientiously object to vaccinating their kids after Queensland Parliament voted to close the loophole.

In a move to hit parents who don't vaccinate their children where it hurts, under the "No Jab, No Play" laws parents who are caught  out could be denied up to $15,000 a year in childcare rebates and welfare payments.

Changes at the pharmacy

IN A bid to save $70 million the Federal Government has removed a whole host of drugs from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

17 drugs, like Panadol Osteo, will no longer be subsidised by the PBS.

The changes to the PBS may affect pensioners who rely on scripts for paracetamol and other affordable medications to reach the threshold at which point they start receiving medication free of charge.

However, Federal Health Minster Sussan Ley said pensioners and other concession card holders would actually benefit from the changes.

"Given 80 per cent of PBS scripts were concessional... [Pensioners] would see their co-payment potentially fall from $6.20 to $5.20.
