New Betta owners bring a wealth of experience

AN END of an era for Mary and Warren Jones and a new chapter for Frances and Gerald Purves means handing over the keys for Roma Betta Home Living.

Current owners of Chincilla Betta, Frances and Gerald have had vast experience in the customer service industry, owning it for the past 45 years.

"The business has been in our family since 1964. I remember being 10 years old and helping dad load fridges,” Mr Purves said.

"We've known Warren and Mary forever and saw buying Roma Betta as a great opportunity to bring our friendly service.

"I'm always looking for something else to keep the blood going and Roma is a very vibrant sort of town.”

After 29 years in the business, Mary and Warren have decided to semi retire to work on their property just outside of town.

"We're going to miss our customers, but I'm sure we'll still see a lot of them around town,” Mr Jones said.

"We've had a lot of comments while we've been out shopping about how they'll miss our service, so it's been bitter sweet leaving.”

With son-in-law Mark as manager of Roma Betta and daughter working in the Chincilla store, the Purveses are proud the family business is now in its third generation.

"It's rewarding seeing our children continuing the family tradition and now our grandchildren running around in store,” Mrs Purves said.

The husband-and-wife, team who have been married for 39 years, have won numerous awards for their customer service, including national retailer of the year 2014 and 2018, and Queensland retailer of the year for 2014 and 2016.

"It comes from having good staff, its not just us. It's the staff that keeps the business alive,” Mr Purves said. "I just love the rewards of seeing satisfied customers and getting the pat on the back for doing something right.

'We've got good rapport with our customers and would be willing to bend over backwards for them.

"I love people, some day its challenging but it's always worth it,” Mrs Purves said.
