‘Natural beauty’, friendly community draws new family to Roma

Australia’s multiculturalism and freedoms have given Mohammad Kausar a chance to live the Aussie lifestyle while still practising his home culture and religion.

Hailing from Bangladesh and bringing his young family with him, Mr Kausar was naturalised as an Australian Citizen at Roma’s Australia Day ceremony in 2021.

The 30-year-old, along with his wife and young son delivered their pledge of citizenship to Maranoa mayor Tyson Golder and the audience of the ceremony.

“It’s a big country and natural beauty gave me reason to come to Australia,” Mr Kausar said.

“Australia is a big country with less population, more secure.”

He found Bangladesh was too small for such a large population, but is happy he moved to Roma where there’s much more space and a better environment.

The safety and helpfulness of the community is also a big plus for him.

“[Roma]’s a very nice place. The people are very friendly,” Mr Kausar said.

The Australian Dream for him - it’s being able to practice both Australian and his home cultures in a multicultural society and to be able to speak to other people of all different backgrounds.

He’s currently working at Woolworths but hopes to start up his own business one day.
