Mum and bub training for charity trek

IF YOU'RE out and about in Redwood Park of a weekend, chances are you might run across a determined mum in training with a baby strapped to her back.

Sarah Ford decided recently that she would take part in a charity trek and given she has been "wearing" baby Nin since birth, she figured the 21-month-old might as well come along for the ride.

The 12km trek around Binna Burra National Park is in aid of special needs children in China, many of whom are abandoned by their parents and have little access to welfare.

She said she had wanted to do something of the sort for a while, but was overwhelmed by the sheer number of important causes out there.

She found Trekking for Hope through her sister's church and immediately saw it as a cause that could use all the help it could get.

She decided it was high time to put Nin in the baby carrier and get to training.

"Nin is turning two in July and she's getting bigger and bigger by the day," she said.

"At the moment, she weighs 13.5kg, but I've been wearing her since she was born and hadn't really noticed how big she was getting until I recently wore a newborn and it was amazingly light.

"I'm not doing much in the way of official training, but we've been trying to get out to Redwood every week for a walk."
