Injune's Mt Hutton survival woes
AN INJUNE committee has incorporated itself in an effort to replace Churches of Christ to run Mt Hutton Retirement Village.
"It's called Injune Retirement Village not called Mt Hutton which is under the jurisdiction of the Churches of Christ," committee chair Des Warrian said.
"We are now looking for finance to help us out with some of the costs in the months to come."
The Churches of Christ said they will close down the facility at the end of November because it is losing money, a charge Mr Warrian rejects having viewed their financial records.
"The overall loss for last year was $68,000 but in that loss there are three levies," he said.
"One is a head office levy, one is a divisional levy and one is a regional levy and those three come to $70,000."
Mr Warrian said the picture wasn't as bad as people painted and the district wanted Mt Hutton to survive.
"I feel strongly that Queensland Health is the area that needs to take on Mt Hutton," he said.
"We all need to contact their office."
Federal Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott said the Churches of Christ had a good record with retirement homes across his electorate.
"But I have to say I'm disappointed with the way they want to exit Mt Hutton for whatever reason," Mr Scott said.
"Without an aged care provider it is going to be very difficult."
Mr Warrian said Mt Hutton's accreditation was successful last week.
"There was no non-compliances out of the 44 standards which is a big plus. It had been going around it was going to cost half a million or a million dollars for Mt Hutton to be accredited," he said.
