UPDATE: Police are investigating what caused a vehicle driven by a 90-year-old man to collide with a tree, killing him at the scene.
Scenes of Crime and Forensic Crash Unit investigators remain at the scene of the crash on the Gatton-Esk Rd at Mount Hallen.
Officers formally identified the man, 90, from New South Wales, and have notified his next of kin.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
11.30AM: Police have confirmed a man has died in a single vehicle crash in the Lockyer Valley this morning.
Initial information suggests the vehicle which the man was driving crashed into a tree of the Gatton-Esk Rd at Mount Hallen.
Emergency services remain on scene investigating the incident which occurred shortly before 10am.
A police spokesman said the Gatton-Esk Rd is closed from Atkinson Dam Rd to Esk-Hampton Rd.
Drivers are advised to use the Esk-Hampton Rd intersection as an alternative route while those travelling from Gatton are urged to use Atkinson Dam Rd.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as investigations are expected to take some time.

Emergency services remain on scene of the traffic incident on Gatton-Esk Rd at Mount Hallen, south of Esk.
The traffic crash, believed to be a single vehicle crash, was reported to emergency services about 9.55am.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services worked with Queensland Ambulance crews on scene.
The matter has since been handed over to police who are investigating the incident.
