Motorbike rider seriously hurt after hitting rock on road

A motorcycle rider has been seriously injured after his bike apparently hit a rock on the road before going down an embankment in Esk.

Police said the male rider was was travelling on the Esk Hampton Road toward Esk when it is believed that he hit a rock on the road about 12.30pm on Saturday.

At this point, the rider left the road and came to a stop down an embankment.

Assisted by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, the man was retrieved and transported via helicopter to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The road, near the site of the crash, was closed for a period of time but has since reopened.

Investigations are continuing.
