Motocross mayhem hits Roma as dynamic duo put on big show
MOTORSPORTS: Some of Australia's top freestyle motocross riders showcased an incredible exhibition of death-defying stunts in front of hundreds of delighted onlookers at Bassett Park in Roma on Saturday.
Tom Robinson from Temora - architect of the world's first 'twist top body varial' - and Luke McNeill from Jervis Bay, performing with the FMX Kaos clan, wowed the large audience that had packed into the KB Tomkins Grandstand.
With each spectacular backflip or superman, the crowd would whoop and cheer in rapturous approval, the riders proving a hit with locals and visitors.
Their display was even more remarkable due to recent heavy rain, which made conditions considerably more dangerous for the performers, a point not lost on manager Ray Hunter.
"The wet really was making things really difficult for the boys today” he said.
"That, and the strong wind, which really wasn't helping much and made things less than ideal.”
Both riders generously gave their time after the show to sign posters and hand out free giveaways to a long line of starstruck children and parents, perhaps inspiring the next generation of freestyle motocross riders.
