Charleville was hit with a light shower yesterday, September 19 with 0.8mm being recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology at 3.30pm.

Roma experienced a bit more rain with 1.2mm coming down as of 4.30pm.

And while it was only a drizzle over the weekend, storms are expected across much of the southwest over the course of this week.

The BOM has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the far southwest, including Quilpie, Windorah and Thargomindah.

There is also a flood warning for the Bulloo River for tomorrow, September 22, and could reach up to four metres.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people in the affected areas should:

  • Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
  • Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
  • Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
  • For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

Charleville can also expect an 80 per cent chance of rainfall on Tuesday, September 22 with 8mm to 15mm filling the gauge.
