More rain for Queensland as Bundaberg cops drenching

Sarah Harvey

STORMS and more heavy rain are on the cards for southern Queensland, as much of the state's coastal areas  enjoy much-needed falls.

The Wide Bay, Fraser Coast region has done the best out of a low that's sitting off the southern end of the Capricornia coast, with Bundaberg scoring 66.6mm since 9am on Monday.

However locals in the Bundaberg region say their rain gauges have shown much higher readings, with Bucca apparently getting 200mm and Moore Park Beach around the same.

Hervey Bay was drenched by the 49.2mm that fell in the same period.

Further north, Mackay received 31.2mm and Proserpine had 23.8.

The low is expected to head southeast, moving offshore this afternoon and tonight.

Meanwhile a strong upper trough will head east over southern Queensland today before moving over south east Queensland.

For today, that means the Wide Bay and northern end of the Sunshine Coast are expected to have some heavier rains this morning that will ease over the day.

The southern central highlands and inland areas - including the Maranoa and western parts of the Darling Downs - can expect some scattered heavy falls with a chance of storms.
