More money for committee MPs

REGIONAL MPs who were named parliamentary committee members will receive larger pay cheques. Only three of 14 Queensland Government ministers come from regional areas, but there will be a lot more regional committee representatives.

Mirani MP Jim Pearce and Ipswich MP Jennifer Howard are set to receive an extra $57,578 on top of their MP base $148,848 salary after being appointed as chair of two separate parliamentary committees.

These are the salaries listed in the Members' Remuneration Handbook.

Newly elected Labor MP Mr Pearce will sit as the chair of the infrastructure, planning and natural resources committee and will work alongside Gladstone MP Glenn Butcher, Dalrymple MP and Katter Australian Party's Shane Knuth and Keppel MP Brittany Lauga, who will all receive and extra $23,031 as a committee member.

One lucky MP, Ipswich West's Labor man Jim Madden, will sit on two committees; the legal affairs and community safety committee and the ethics committee.

Here are some of the other regional members who have been appointed:

*Labor member Ms Howard will chair the agriculture and environment committee and will work alongside Burnett MP Stephen Bennett, Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert and Hervey Bay MP Ted Sorensen.

*Condamine MP Pat Weir is set to receive the extra $23,000 for her role in the finance and administration committee.

*Beaudesert MP Jon Krause, Ipswich West MP Jim Madden and Gympie MP Tony Perrett will sit on the legal affairs and community safety committee, which have the ultimate task of discussion the Labor's proposed changes to the declared political donations threshold.

*South Toowoomba MP John McVeigh and Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders will sit on the education, tourism and small business committee.

*Buderim MP Steve Dickson will play a role in the health and ambulance services committee.

*Caloundra MP Mark McArdle will play a role in the communities, disability services and domestic and family violence prevention committee.

*Whitsunday MP Jason Costigan is on the Utilities, Science and Innovation Committee.*

*Noosa MP Glen Elmes and Ipswich West MP Jim Madden will sit on the ethics committee.

*Morayfield MP Mark Ryan, Callide MP Jeff Seeney and Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts have been appointed to sit on the parliamentary crime and corruption committee.

*Editor: An early version of this story incorrectly stated that Jason Costigan was on the ethics committee.
