More flights into Roma
Roma will be a beneficiary of a move by Qantas to expand their services into regional Queensland.
QantasLink announced this week that they will add services into nine additional towns across the state, with Roma receiving two extra flights a week.
The additional flights will be operated by new Q300 and Q400 aircrafts and will begin operation on Monday, May 28.
QantasLink will ensure that 10% of seats are made available to local travellers at an affordable rate.
Commerce Roma president Cameron O'Neil said the additional flights to Roma will be great for business.
"It means more people in town and an opportunity for local business to move easily across the state," Mr O'Neil said.
"From a community perspective it's great too.
"The opportunities are endless to jump in a plane that morning and be back at home in your own bed that night, whether it be for business or pleasure."
Mine worker Shaun Smith has been a fly-in-fly-out worker all over Queensland for four years and said the extra flights are needed for Roma's infrastructure in the years to come.
Mr Smith said you have to think about what's going to happen in the future and how best to manage the influx of people.
"Being someone who uses the services regularly I think it's a good thing," Mr Smith said.
"I've been flying in and out of Roma since September and I think the town needs it.
"It will also tie in well with the new airport."
The new flights will utilise the extended runway at Roma's upgraded airport, which is due to be opened on March 17, which was extended to accommodate larger planes like the Q400.
