Mitchell reserves soar through to the grand final

Rugby league: The match wasn't the only thing Wallumbilla-Surat Red Bulls lost on the weekend, with the game against the Magpies ending early due to the hunt for some missing teeth.

"One of the Wallumbilla fellas lost a couple of teeth with six minutes to go so they decided to end the game early,” Magpies club president John Birkett said.

"We had an SES parade out looking for them who couldn't find them, unfortunately.”

Reserve-grade Mitchell Magpies soared high against their rivals at Bassett Park on Sunday, with a dominating 52-10 win catapulting them to the grand final.

"It was a big turn around from their game last week when they played pretty flat and let Cities dictate the game,” Birkett said.

"The boys were a lot more energetic this week and had more momentum.

"Daniel Bruce was a standout player, he's probably been the best in the last two weeks.

"Warren Draper and Ollie Aitken played really well.”

The Magpies will now play Cities Sunday in the grand final, with Birkett saying the team made up of players from several towns had done incredibly to achieve what it had this season.

"We have one player from Cunnamulla, many from Charleville and then Mitchell so the boys haven't been able to have a run together all year,” he said.

"Cities train together week in, week out so they definitely have an advantage but it's all about who plays better on the day.”

The U16s team didn't fare as well, with a 24-14 loss to Red Bulls.

"They've done incredibly well to get to where they've got, considering they struggled all year to get enough numbers for a team,” Birkett said.

"If they played with the same intensity they had at the end, they could have potentially come away with the win, but they gave Red Bulls too much of a lead.”
