Messi and Ronaldo vying for award ... again
FOOTBALL: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have shared the Ballon d'Or - the trophy for the world's best footballer - every year since Kaka won it in 2007.
The two look like going head to head again after being named on the shortlist for this year's title.
Ronaldo is the favourite after leading Portugal to the Euro 2016 crown and Real Madrid to the Champions League.
He is one of six Real Madrid players on the list alongside Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos and Pepe - the most from any club.
Unsurprisingly Messi's Barcelona teammates Neymar, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta are also nominated.
The outsiders on the list appear to be Leicester City pair Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, who helped the Foxes win a first English Premier League title.
