Melissa learns more about motherhood

ROMA’S Melissa Schurman has had two children before her little ‘miracle’ Ari was born – but a new program has given her a new perspective on motherhood.

The mother-of-three is one of several new mums who has learnt hints and tips from the Roma New Mum Cafe.

The group, which meets every Tuesday morning at the Roma Library’s cafe lounge from 9am, aims to let new mums unwind and swap stories and advice with other parents.

Ms Schurman has been taking Ari for several weeks and said the group had benefits for both mother and child.

“There was some information about the group at the hospital when I had Ari and so I followed it up,” she said.

“It’s a great idea because it’s a great opportunity to meet with other mums and babies.

“This is the first time Ari’s been participating but loves other babies and playing together.”

Coordinator and Child Health nurse Angie Gorry said the group normally attracted around seven pairs each week.

“It’s all about maternal well-being – I love it when we get two to three mums and they all talk,” she said.
