Meet two of Roma’s newest school students
ROMA youngsters Lilly-Jayde Williams and Indy Godford have known each other since they babies.
So it only made sense for them to be starting their schooling life at the same time and at the same school.
The pair will be two of hundreds of kids to start prep across the Maranoa, with school starting back for all state schools next Wednesday.
Indy’s mother Jacinda said her daughter was already very excited for school to start.
“Indy was watching her older brother Duke when he was in prep last year and she’s very keen to get started,” she said.
Lilly-Jayde’s mother Tianna Whitanui said her daughter was looking forward to the chance to mix with kids she’d never met before.
“She’s just excited to meet new people – she’s got a best friend who’s also starting,” she said.
Ms Whitanui said she couldn’t believe she was already sending her only child off to school already.
“It’s going to be a bit lonely at home,” she said.
“I was looking through old baby photos and I can’t believe it’s already time for her to start school.”
Both girls had a taste of life in prep last year with the prep transition program run at Roma State College’s junior campus.
Ms Whitanui said the program was the main reason Lilly-Jayde was so excited for school.
“She’s gotten that small taste thanks to the program - she knew every Wednesday was prep transition day and she’d always get excited for it,” she said.
Ms Godford said she hoped her daughter kept creating art while at school, which was her favourite thing to do at home.
