Meet the new clubs for 2017 Roma Junior League comp
THE new body representing junior rugby league in the Maranoa has urged parents and community members to get behind the new competition in 2017.
The Roma and District Junior Rugby League will feature at least four clubs, with two newly formed following the loss of the state schools.
The Carnarvon Cubs (Roma and Injune) and a Wallumbilla/Surat/Yuleba side will join St John's Catholic School and Mitchell Magpies in the new competition, fielding teams.
Interim president Grant Lorenz said he was hoping the Maranoa community embraced the new concept, saying it was vital for the survival of junior rugby league.
"At this stage, that is what we'll be running with in 2017,” he said.
"From a club point of view, they really need to get enough people on board.
"The (community) are going to need to (support it) for it to succeed.
"It wasn't ideal what happened, but we've got to make it the best that we can for the kids.”
The first AGM will be held on November 16 at St John's School from 5.30pm, with all executive positions open.
The inaugural president for the Wallumbilla Surat Yuleba Junior Rugby League Club, Stuart Maunder, said they were excited for the new season.
"Our three small communities have come together to form a strong junior club that will enable our children to play a sport that they love,” he said.
"We have a great group of people working towards a common goal.”
The club will be using the state school's grounds for training purposes.
The club's next meeting is on November 15 in Wallumbilla.
